About Me

I am a very positive person, who wants to enjoy everything in life as it comes. I want to associate with like-minded people. Well, I’m not a celebrity whom you people know already. I am ordinary person with special interests and very interesting activities. As a professional, I taught English  language and literature to Under-graduate and Post-graduate students  for thirty one years, before retiring last April.

Reading is my passion and I can read and enjoy anything and everything– from short-stories to novels, to philosophical, spiritual and inspirational books. Auto-biographies and biographies also find an avid reader in me. And language is no bar – I enjoy reading in English, Punjabi and Hindi.

My favourite books include The Old Man & the Sea, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Kite Runner, Nine Lives, and The Immortals of Meluha (English); Loona, Katha Kaho Urvashi, Anndatta (Punjabi) and Maha-Prasthan, Mera Bunty, Ashad ka ek Din (Hindi).

My interest in literature of different language led me to try my hand at translation work. So far, I have translated five books from Punjabi into English.

  • Twilight by Dalip Kaur Tiwana; National Book Trust, New Delhi
  • Anndatta, by Baldev Singh; Punjabi University Publication Bureau, Patiala
  • Voices in the Back Courtyard- a collection of short stories by Punjabi Women Writers;Rupa & Co. New Delhi
  • On the Trails of Fire by Inder Singh Khamosh; Punjabi University Publication Bureau Patiala (Under publication)
  • Town and the Countryside- a collection of stories by Sujan Singh; Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi

I love listening to soft music which includes Sufiana Qalam – my favourites being Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen. Among the Ghazal singers, I like Jagjit Singh and Ahmad Hussain-Muhammad Hussain. I also enjoy instrumental music, particularly sitar recital, though I can very easily go with the latest foot-tapping pop music for a while.

I do write short articles some of which get published in newspapers, some not. So here I‘ll be writing without waiting for these articles to get published. I hope you’ll enjoy reading my articles.
